The Season so far
23 May 2009
The world cup season kicked off in south africa in my team mate greg minnaar’s home town pietermaritzburg. The track didn’t really suit me and although i’ve been training harder than ever this off season, thanks to my trainer stephane girard. i still wasn’t quite on the pace of the top boys which disheartened me slightly when my overall result was 32nd. i put the race behind me and started to focus on the 2nd round 3 weeks later in la bresse, france.
This track was far more suited to my riding style and i had some really good fun in practice with steve and greg, i felt i was up to race speed and i was going for a top 10 result come race day.
my run was pretty rad although i didn’t even get out of shape once which is kind of unlike me ha ha. I went into 5 or something and considering i had qualified pretty low i didn’t expect this after a good run. my final result was 24th which really pissed me off and motivated hard going into the next race in andorra the following weekend. On a brighter note Steve Peat killed it taking his 16th world cup win and matching nico vouilloz outstanding record.
So we travelled to andorra and i was really keen to get on the track and get some runs in as i hadn’t ridden the track the year previous due to injury. Its a strange track because it flows well if your carrying speed but if you loose your rhythm then your in trouble. I worked hard and chose my lines wisely as the track was nailed to start with and it was deteriorating pretty fast. in my race run i didn’t ride the top section like i had hoped but i put it behind me and hauled some as through the woods, i ended up in 9th place and helped the team get our first team win of the year. i was stoked to get my first top ten of the year and cant wait to get the next races underway. Also to make the weekend even better Steve got another win and that now makes him the most winning world cup rider of all time. Yeah old school!!
im pretty flat out for the next few months now but ill shall keep the updates coming.
Big thank you to all you guys who are supporting me, i’m living the dream right now and i’m stoked to be representing all of you.
peace out
