2010 off to a good start!

Taff Buggy trails in south walesPoor organisation seemed to be the order of the weekend from the moment when i went to pick my mates bike up on friday night and when taking his front wheel off we realised he had snapped his forks!
Anyhow so at 6 o’clock saturday morning i was waiting outside the ‘mechanic’ for the weekends house, once he had awoken and we had loaded 3 bikes 4 men and enough bags for a cheerleading team into my tiny van we left Poynton at half six. halfway there we realised the backup forks my friend had brought had no axle AND we had forgotten the commitment cam (disaster)
4 hours later we rolled up at taff buggy trails in south wales. the weather was amazing with blue skies and the sun was giving it some as well. we prized ourselves from our seats and unloaded my trusty van all eager as ken to get some runs in. The track was so mint, i did about 5 or 6 practice runs but the wide tapes left for some really exciting line choice, i was doing a lot of sectioning with my homeboys trying silly lines and generally having a great time.
That evening we went and checked into the hotel got some good old pub food and then hit the sack! phil awoke us in the middle of the night with a little girly coughing fit and kept coughing and keeping us awake, after a good clout round the head with my water bottle his cough disappeared and he went back to sleep.
Sunday was another fantastic day, the sun was out and the track was dusty (How about that?) got a few runs in before the racing started and i was excited to blast a race run out.
Ben was first down and the was keeping the reputation as the loose scouser in full flow as he stacked it about 20 seconds into his run on the same spot he’d been messing about on in practice. Nonneth AKA mash was next up in the hardtail category, his game plan was to make a smooth first run so he could go, and i quote “japanese style” on his second run. God knows where he got that from the crazy cat. Anyhow he knocked himself in the rock garden seemingly banging his two brain cells together and it kicked some sense into him. My run was pretty good despite a few moments in the wind and i went into the lead by around 5 seconds.
After some of peanut butter Sammy’s and a belly full of monster we were all ready for run two, first up again scouse crashed in the same spot and ended up doing exactly the same time as his first run! Nonneth must have got his plans mixed up because he was smooth on his second run putting a solid run down good enough for 5th place in the hardtail category and i managed to do a WYN Masters style no footed seat bounce over the last jump and get exactly the same time as my first run but fortunately it was good enough to secure the win!
After the 5 hour traffic filled mission home we were all buzzing about the great weekend we had had and i was just loving riding bikes with friends back to the roots of why i do this in the first place! pretty busy organising a trip out to spain with big bryce at the moment going on wednesday for a race in Vigo so i’ll update you on that sometime next week!
Thanks to everyone for making it happen!
